Update: This morning (January 20, 2014), I received the following email reply in response to my query about GDELT’s status:
“Thank you for your query.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is not associated with G-DELT or any decisions about its status, however two faculty members here have expressed scholarly concerns about the source of the data that underlies the G-DELT database.
